Almajiri System Has Contributed To Backwardness In North-east—lawmaker - Politics

Bauchi—THE member representing Dass constituency in Bauchi State, Maryam Bagel, has called for street begging school system by children (Amaljiri) to be abolished, saying the system is a major cause of backwardness in the North-East.
The lawmaker spoke, yesterday, during the celebration of the Day of the African Child by Bauchi State Television Authority, BATV, in collaboration with UNICEF.

She said: “Many stakeholders in the North-East are shying away from the negative implications of the Almajiri system due to political motives.

“Those days, young men who were interested in acquiring knowledge travelled to places like Sokoto, Maiduguri.

“Now we have Islamic teachers almost in every neighbourhood. So the essence of the Almajiri system is now defeated
